Gebo connection for heating

The Gebo coupling will help you connect to an iron pipe without cutting a thread on it. There are situations when there are no alternatives to this connection. For example, if the pipe is old and cutting threads on it is already risky.
GEBO or GEBO ARMATUREN GMBH, this is the name of the manufacturer of compression connectors, i.e. connectors thanks to which it is possible to combine metal lines from pipes using the crimping method. Made in Germany.
She looks like this:
In the photo, the device has already been in operation for several years on a cold water riser; the rubber seal did not collapse after this time and remained as elastic as in the new fitting.
I install similar connections in cases of urgent repairs and the impossibility of cutting threads. The connections are quite reliable. If installed correctly, you can not even doubt its “respectable” performance.
These fittings can be very different: with external thread, internal thread, tees, connectors and all of them have different diameters. There are even “vampires”, i.e. These are these devices thanks to which you can connect to a key pipeline by drilling a hole in it.
In this material we will consider only the direct connector because this will make it possible to understand the working principle of this fitting.
Let's unwind: An example diagram found on the network:
As you can see, everything is very simple. An example of the installation process: In the first photo, you can see how a tap with a round hole is already screwed to it. On the second, the adapter coupling to the polymer pipe is already screwed to the faucet.
Something about the installation process.
When installing this device, you need to clean the pipe from the helmet and from everything that is not considered a pipe. It is necessary to strictly follow the order of all the rings: a large nut is put on the pipe, then a cone-shaped clamping ring, then a flat clamping ring and a rubber seal, and only then the body. Then this thing is tightened with a large Swedish key/swedish.
Threadless compression/clamp connection GEBO / GEBO
Hi all! I'm not an expert, but I'll make my own small contribution - maybe it will help someone. They installed Gebo for cold water and hot water when replacing sections of risers. So, after 2-3 months (I don’t remember exactly), the hot water pipe was torn out of the coupling (the pipe went down almost 20 cm). After I ran through all the basement floors in an attempt to understand how this could be and where the pipe had gone, I went down to the basement and saw a magnificent picture: a brand new riser pipe (the housing office recently changed the section in the basement) coming out of the ceiling (basement) and at an angle of 90 degrees it goes 10 meters to the wall. And this is all happiness without any fastenings: suspensions, supports, etc. In other words, because the interfloor fastenings (or whatever they are called) were rotten and there were no fastenings in the basement - the hot water pipe was simply “hanging.” Upon completion, she vomited from Gebo (weak spot). What I want to say with this: Gebo is a good thing, I myself want to install it at the outlet from the riser, but be careful that it is not installed in places where there is a “breaking” load. I hope I didn’t write in vain.
Naturally, GEBO should be installed where there are no tensile loads. If there is a suspicion that the pipe could potentially slip, then it is worth installing a clamp that will not let go of the pipe.
Design of Gebo fitting coupling
A compression coupling is a hollow cylinder into which pipes are inserted for connection. The adapter is suitable for pressure and non-pressure systems.
Coupling design:
- Ductile iron body;
- Clamp ring;
- Crimp ring - a split ring with teeth inside;
- Rubber compressor;
- Nuts.
The inner edge is cut into a cone, the sealing insert is also in the form of a cone.
Types of Gebo compounds:
- Single-sided crimp with internal thread;
- With external thread;
- Double-sided – with compression rings for clamping on both sides;
- Tee – used as a connection or adapter;
- Universal detachable.
GEBO coupling (gebo) is an ingenious solution to rusty pipes.
GEBO coupling is a threadless compression connection for steel and polyethylene pipes, quick removal of accidents without welding and without threading. It is used during installation of non-permanent and permanent steel systems, repair work using only 2 Swedish spanners.
It very often happens that the pipe is quite old and cutting the thread is simply hemorrhoidal or raises doubts about the work of the thread (it will bend when screwing or breaks off), and it is simply impossible to do welding work; the pipe is burned through or is simply paper thin - then you definitely need to use only one solution -GEBO coupling.
Pros of the Gebo coupling:
- connection of two pipe components without threading or welding
- the disassembly of the Gebo coupling gives the advantage of connecting the lengths of two sides when connecting
- easy connection of any pipes
- an excellent solution for removing accidents in water supply systems, without special tools
- way out in situations with cramped working conditions
- suitable for heating systems up to 90 degrees coolant
- water pressure range up to 10 atm
Disadvantages of the heba coupling:
- clutch is very often a temporary solution rather than a permanent one
Gebo coupling in cross-section
Let us consider in general terms all the parameters of GEBO couplings:
- working time -30 minutes
- tools - a hacksaw and two adjustable wrenches
- will be performed by one employee
- precision operations are not required; there is a compensation space in the middle of the coupling
- clean work at low cost
Instructions for the installation process of the GEBO coupling:
- cut off the damaged pipe section strictly vertically with a metal file. We will remove burrs, clean the pipe from debris, irregularities, paint, and carry out the preparation.
- We put the pipes on top one by one
- flare nut
- crimp ring
- spacer ring
- seal ring
- pull the seal ring a couple of cm further from the edge of the pipe, 1 mm from the sleeve where the pipe is inserted
- place the end of the pipe with the coupling parts into the inner chamber of the coupling, not leaving a gap until the very end
- we attach the individual parts of the coupling in reverse order to the inside of the coupling chamber
- tighten the flare nut, hold the pipe straight, avoiding distortions
- It is necessary to avoid turning the pipe
- Using 2 wrenches we tighten the nuts with a force of 150-200 Nm.
Crimp couplings can be used repeatedly, but it is best to change the O-rings. Couplings must always be very accessible; they cannot be monolid.

Application area
Technical networks begin to deteriorate over time, which leads to breakthroughs and leaks. Replacing the entire system requires large labor and material costs, so they are often limited to preventive maintenance and eliminating minor leakage problems, as well as partial replacement of sections. Gebo compression fittings are ideal for routine repairs of components and connections. Using such a coupling, you can connect different materials to each other - cast iron, steel, galvanized, plastic.
Scope of application for Gebo threadless connections:
- Restoration of existing pipelines in case of freezing of water in the system, corrosion and mechanical damage;
- Replacing old risers in several apartments - cutting off the pipe and attaching the next new section is easy using a Gebo fitting. But welding work is inappropriate here due to the high fire hazard and the risk of discrepancies from welding old metal. It is problematic to cut threads on used sections - the thinned metal will crumble or rot in the coming years.
- Replacing part of the circuit in a bathroom with an expensive design, if you don’t want to spoil the tile lining with welding splashes;
- For connecting the connector when installing a pipe in hard-to-reach places, when the pipe needs to be shortened, and the thread cannot be cut even with a die.
In addition, Gebo fittings can be used:
- On heating and hot water systems, if the operating temperature in the main line does not exceed 80°, and the pressure in the network does not exceed 1.0 MPa.
- For repairing gas lines in which the pressure does not exceed 0.4 MPa.
The Gebo universal split clutch is suitable for urgent pipe perforation repairs.
Advantages of Gebo threadless connections
Using Gebo fittings has undeniable advantages:
- No welding;
- No need to make carving;
- Cost-effectiveness of materials;
- Service guarantee - the connection will serve as long as the pipe on which the clutch is placed is standing.
Advantages of Gebo connections:
- Long service life - from 10 to 50 years;
- There is no metal fatigue or internal stress;
- Multidisciplinary application;
- High tensile and bending resistance;
- Easy to install - even a novice plumber can carry out repairs by reading the instructions.
The only drawback of such connections is the one-time use of the structure. Of course, you can buy additional seals and reinstall the clutch, but there is a risk of using non-original components. The fake does not last long, so it is better to use a new Gebo branded compression sleeve each time.
Installation of Gebo threadless connection
At the beginning of work, it is worth studying the instructions and making the connection strictly in accordance with the recommendations. Otherwise, the tightness of the joint is not guaranteed, and leaks are likely.
Before work, you need to clean the pipe from paint and limescale. Then you can begin installation:
- We insert a cone-shaped rubber band into the coupling;
- We put on a pressure ring that will clamp the gasket;
- Then there is a crimp ring with teeth. It pushes the elastic inside, preventing water from leaking.
- We put a large nut on the coupling and pipe, compress it halfway;
- We attach the second pipe and finally fix it.
The entire structure is tightened with a large gas (adjustable) wrench. People called him "Swedish". The mounted unit is stable and durable. Plumbers say that it is more likely that a pipe will burst than a Gebo connection will break.
On a note! The diameter of the coupling is selected to match the size of the clearance in the pipeline.
Marking
Gebo fittings are marked depending on their purpose:
- The coupling marked with a blue stripe is intended for coupling cold water supply systems;
- Red stripe – for hot water supply and heating systems;
- Yellow stripe – only for gas pipelines;
- Green stripe – for polyethylene pipes supplying water, compressed air or gas;
- Without color marking - for water.

Gebo coupling
The Gebo company produces unique connection elements. They can be used at operating pressures of water and compressed air up to 10 bar, and at a temperature of the transported medium of 80 degrees. An increase to 110 degrees is allowed for a short time.
Gebo Technika International is considered a subsidiary of Gebo Armaturen GmbH. From the very beginning, the company specialized in wholesale sales of pipes. Then she introduced technical connections to the market, which were called Gebo. Over the years, the company has been actively developing. In a similar way, the Gebo Group holding was founded. It included 10 companies from different countries of the world. At this time, the Gebo coupling is the sales leader.
Moreover, the company's activities include the production of connectors, clamps, clamps, elastic corrugated stainless steel pipes and other products. The Gebo coupling will help you connect to an iron pipe without resorting to cutting threads on it.
There are situations when there is no analogue of this type of connection. For example, if the structure is quite old and cutting threads is already difficult.
Design of elements for Gebo connections
Thanks to the use of new technologies, precise, fast and sealed products for pipes and wires are produced. In the process of setting up such systems, it becomes possible to avoid thread cutting and welding work. Gebo fittings have a slotted crimping ring made of steel.
Moreover, it is galvanized. The ring is adjusted to the required conditions by clamping with a nut. Then it is carefully tightened. In this case, the teeth located in the inner part are capable of cutting into the pipe. Likewise, the strength of the connection and its impermeability are ensured.
The pressure ring is of great importance. It is made of steel, similar to a crimp one. This ensures correct fastening and eliminates damage to the seal ring, the dimensions of which are adjusted to the required diameter of the structure. As a result, high-quality fastening is guaranteed. The seal ring is made of rubber material and meets the required standards.
