According to the characteristics of the working environment, PVC pipes can be pressure, non-pressure and for work in rarefied environments. Profitability of plastic pipe production
To understand how profitable this production is, I want to offer you a simple example. Let's calculate the economic feasibility of producing the most popular and in-demand sample. This is a PVC sewer pipe with a diameter of 50 mm and a wall thickness of 1.8 mm. One meter of this pipe weighs 0.6 kg. Its cost on the market or in stores is approximately 57 rubles per 1 meter.
To produce 1 linear meter, you need approximately 0.6 kg of raw materials (PVC resin SG-5 made in China) costing 45 rubles per kilogram.
1 meter of pipe = 0.6 kg of raw materials * 45 rubles = 27 rubles - this is the rough estimate of the cost.
If the equipment is fully loaded, the production line can produce 95,000 linear meters of products per month. The production of such a volume will take about 34 tons of raw materials, which will amount to 1,500,000 rubles in monetary terms. Full implementation of the entire monthly production norm will bring 2,300,000 rubles in revenue.
By a simple mathematical operation, we get an obvious profit of 800,000 rubles. But additionally, you should take into account the costs of staff salaries, energy costs for production and other overhead costs. They are approximately equal to 35% of profits. We will receive net profit.
Net profit=800,000-35%=520,000 rubles/month
A line for the production of PVC pipes supplied on the basis of a franchise agreement (for example, let’s take the LPT 63 20×110 line) costs 1,750,000 rubles. The cost of its delivery, installation and setup will be about 150,000 rubles.
Investments and income
Taking into account the staff salaries for six months, the supply of raw materials and the cost of purchasing and creating production facilities, 5 million rubles of investment will be required to start the process. Prospects for the PVC pipe market in Russia
Now in the European Union, the leading position in market demand is occupied by PVC pipes. A strong lobby in state governments helps achieve this result. For example, in Austria, the share of polyvinyl chloride in the demand for polymer pipes is 58%. This fact was facilitated by government support for equipment manufacturers.
In the Russian Federation, this figure is inferior to the share of demand for traditional pipes and products made of polyolefins. It accounts for only 9% of the total pipe production. The physical properties of polyvinyl chloride and the climatic conditions in our country do not allow the maximum replacement of the need for pipes with products made from this material.
But it is quite obvious that PVC pipeline materials will still take their rightful place in the Russian market. They are very undervalued, and in some niches it is difficult for them to find an adequate replacement.
Manufacturers need to create their own lobby, following the example of Western countries, introduce regulatory documents, expand the scientific and production base. Major players in the polymer market are already working in this direction. Such companies, “Plastprofil” and others, consider this area of business promising and invest huge amounts of money in technology and equipment.
A little about polypropylene
Polypropylene is the starting product of the polymerization of propylene and ethylene in specific quantities. The resulting material is called PPRC random copolymer.
In the domestic market today there is no worthy analogue to foreign polymers. For the production of polypropylene pipes, we use the Finnish RA 130E BOREALIS and the Hungarian TIPPLEN CS4-8000 TVK.

One of them should preferably have the knowledge and skills of an adjuster and have the appropriate approvals. Thus, if you count on two shifts, you need to hire four people.
To provide the workshop with orders, it is advisable to organize a sales and marketing department. Scheme for obtaining a certificate of conformity
Some types of PVC pipes are subject to mandatory certification. This process is regulated by more than 20 state standards. Those types of products that are not subject to mandatory certification undergo the procedure at the request of the company that opened production. There are several reasons for initial planning and searching for suppliers:
— Firstly, this is related to the acquisition of equipment. Since the hardware installations required for the production of pipes are focused on different consumables, that is, raw materials.

The entrepreneur’s task is to analyze the market of suppliers, first the closest ones, and then from neighboring regions, determine the most favorable conditions for themselves, and become familiar with the conditions of the suppliers themselves. And then put everything into the financial diagram of the business plan. It will be better if you identify several supply options, because it is not advisable to constantly rely on only one supplier. There are a huge number of force majeure and other factors.
Necessary equipment
The main unit on the production line of polymer PVC pipes is an extruder. This is a unit with a vertically located gearbox and an electric motor. It has a plasticizer cylinder and a barrier screw. Equipped with a special cabinet for switching and automatic control.
The entire extrusion line is a sequence of operations in a process flow diagram. Mounted indoors, it has a length from 20 to 60 meters. The corresponding technological process is sequentially performed on each element.

There are no special requirements for choosing a room. The main thing is that the machine for the production of plastic pipes and other necessary equipment fit. Of course, do not forget about a special room for working personnel. The building must also have a bathroom and storage area. It is prohibited to build such factories in the city. It is necessary to organize convenient entry for trucks. Depending on the amount of equipment, the building area should be from 40 to 200 square meters.
What is used as raw material
To produce pipes in an extrusion line, synthetic granulated PVC resin is used as a raw material. It can be of several types according to the method of polymerization of polyvinyl chloride. Suspension PVC resin is used to load extrusion lines.
In Russia, this chemical synthesis product is produced by several enterprises: Plastkard CJSC (Volgograd); OJSC Sayanskkhimplast (Sayansk-1); as well as CJSC "Kaustik" (Sterlitamak).
There is a shortage of domestic raw materials on the market, so manufacturers often resort to purchasing Chinese resin. The products of Hungarian and Polish factories are of very good quality.
Some lines for the production of PVC pipes successfully use recycled materials, such as crushed window profiles. In this case, it is necessary to control the viscosity of the melt by adding plastic compounds or adjusting the temperature.
Auxiliary substances for the polymer mixture
To achieve the required qualities during the extrusion process, special additives are introduced into the raw materials. The additive formula is prepared by the manufacturers themselves. The following are the chemical additives:
- Various stabilizers that give stability to the shape of the product.
- Plasticizers to regulate the viscosity of the material.
- Catalysts for controlling the polymerization reaction.
- Dyes.
The recipe is selected individually for each line according to the process conditions. Therefore, to maintain a constant level of product quality, it is advisable to use raw materials and additives from the same manufacturer.

Production technology

This produces plasticized blanks, which then go into a tank for a vacuum calibrator. A vacuum is created in it using a special pump. The plastic workpiece is pressed against the walls of the calibrator under the influence of vacuum. This ensures uniformity and accuracy of the specified geometric dimensions.
This is followed by cooling in special baths. The finished product is cut into pieces of a certain length using a guillotine or a circular saw and placed on a rack for further sale.
How is product quality controlled?
Factories are equipped with special laboratories to monitor the quality of their products. They are equipped with measuring equipment and test benches. Testing of PVC pipes is carried out no earlier than 16 hours after the end of the production process.
The following parameters are tested:
- Geometric dimensions. The test sample is compared with the standard, and the wall thickness is measured using a special measuring device.
- Impact resistance test. The samples are kept at a temperature of 0 ± 1 °C for at least an hour and then subjected to 25 shocks for 30 seconds.
- Determination of thermal deformation of a product under the influence of compressed air. Samples are subjected to internal pressure testing at a temperature of 95 °C for 165 hours or until failure is detected.
- Measuring the elongation of a pipe after heating it. Marks are applied to the outer surface of the heated sample. It is exposed to heat for 40 minutes at a temperature of 150 °C, then the distance between the marks is recorded and compared with the original data.
As samples, we take 200 mm sections of PVC pipe, the ends of which are cut exactly perpendicular to the location of the axis of the product. On the eve of the tests, they must be in normal conditions at an air temperature of 25 ° C for two hours.
How to choose
Everyone's selection criteria are different. Some are interested in the question of what it costs, others study the functionality, others choose the best options, and others check the wall thickness. Everyone is right in their own way. However, experts recommend paying attention to the following indicators:
- Diameter. Much depends on the scope of application. For internal apartment water supply, a sufficient diameter of 20 - 25 mm. Suitable diameters for risers are from 32 to 40 mm.
- Maximum permissible pressure. All polypropylene structures, except PN10, are suitable for domestic use. They are produced with thin walls, but withstand significant pressure (10 atm.). They won't serve for long. Trunk pipelines are installed from thicker elements.
- Thermal expansion coefficient. Depends on the choice of installation method. Thus, PN 20 models are not laid using the open method. It can bend and lose its original characteristics, as well as spoil the appearance of the object. The open method is provided for laying polypropylene structures reinforced with aluminum or fiberglass.
- The maximum permissible temperature reading. The type of coolant that is to be transported inside the pipeline plays a big role. Products PN 16 are suitable for cold water supply systems, PN 25 - for heating systems, PN 20 - for hot water supply.
- Strength. The indicator is high, but if the products are strongly compressed or when bent, cracks may occur. This must be taken into account during the installation process.
- Heat resistance. It is assumed that the ambient temperature is not expected to be too low. The optimal option is +15 degrees Celsius, although it will withstand temperatures of 171 degrees, only for a short time.
- Density. The indicator is 0.91 kg/cc. Polypropylene is wear-resistant and hard, and will withstand interaction with abrasive particles.
- Persistence. Not afraid of unfavorable environments. It can become unusable only after prolonged “communication” with a strong acid or high temperatures. Salts and impurities cannot harm the product.

- Contact of product surfaces with metal objects is unacceptable; this can significantly reduce their wear resistance due to possible minor damage.
