The reasons for the deterioration or cessation of sewerage may be different:
- due to oversight or careless operation, a large insoluble object that accidentally ends up there may get stuck in the pipe, or a blockage may form due to food waste or large debris thrown into the toilet;

If an obstruction in the sewer network is detected, they immediately begin cleaning it using one of the following methods:
- Hydromechanical - install a plunger on the drain hole and, pressing the handle, set air and wastewater in motion, pushing the blockage further along the pipeline. This old method helps with small blockages and when large objects get into the pipes, especially if the blockage is close to the drainage point. But a plunger will do nothing to help with growths on the walls.
- Chemical - factory-made or self-made compounds are poured or poured into the pipeline, corroding grease, rust and limescale. The chemicals can easily deal with small build-ups and small household waste, returning the lost capacity of the sewer system in a few hours. Personal hygiene items, large garbage and leftovers, perennial and already hardened growths on the insides of the sewer system may not be dissolved by chemical compounds.
Important! Chemical drain cleaning is recommended to be carried out regularly - once every one to two months, and not only in the event of an accident. Continuous preventative maintenance helps maintain pipeline functionality.
- Mechanical - use a plumbing cable, pulling it through the sewer hole manually or with a special machine. Using a cable with various attachments, you can push the plug or pull out a foreign object that has gotten there, and remove build-ups on the inner walls of the pipes.
- Hydrodynamic - they use a machine that has a flexible hose instead of a cable that supplies powerful jets of water to the problem section of the pipeline. Obstacles are destroyed under pressure and carried away by the flow further through the pipes.
Important! When hydrodynamically cleaning a sewage system, a large volume of contaminated water enters the collector. To prevent the collection well from overflowing, pump it out before starting work or during the cleaning process.

Shredded garbage and sewage are carried away by the flow of water to the collector or riser. Design Features
Structural elements of a hydrodynamic machine:

The hose with nozzles attached to it is called the working body of a hydrodynamic machine; the compressor serves to create the required water pressure. Additional details increase cleaning efficiency and ease of use of the device.
Cleaning nozzles consist of a fastening element and injectors - sprayers with holes through which water is released.
Direct-acting injectors direct the jets forward, creating a brush effect, while reverse-acting injectors send water back and to the side diagonally. This creates jet thrust, which helps move the working part of the device forward, and also removes contaminants remaining after the initial treatment with the front jets.
How the device works
The mechanism of operation of the hydrodynamic machine is simple:
- a hose with an installed nozzle is passed through an inspection window or drain hole into the drainage system and the compressor is turned on;
- water rushes into the hose at high speed;
- passing through the injector nozzles, the water is divided into powerful jets, simultaneously ensuring the movement of the working part of the machine and cleaning the pipe.
Important! The device does the work itself, but control is necessary - you need to ensure that the hose does not twist, regulate the pressure and monitor the condition of the network nodes. If a leak is detected, the machine should be turned off immediately, otherwise the pipeline may burst.
Varieties
Hydrodynamic machines are produced in three types: car-based, trailer-based and mobile devices.
- Vehicle based
These units, together with a water tank, are mounted on trucks. They are mainly used for cleaning house and network sewers with a diameter of up to 1000 mm. The pump is driven by the car engine through the transfer case and is capable of creating water pressure of about 300 atmospheres; the hose length can reach 120 m.
- Based on a trailer
These devices are installed on single-axle or two-axle car trailers. The pump is driven by an internal combustion engine or an electric motor. There is also a water container. The pump provides a pressure of about 200 atmospheres. The hose length is up to 90 m. Such machines are capable of cleaning channels with a diameter of up to 500 mm. They are more mobile and can be installed directly near the house or cottage during work.
- Mobile
These devices are lightweight, which allows them to be transported manually by one or two people. They are mounted on single-axle trolleys with two wheels. They are driven by a gasoline or electric engine and are connected to the mains water supply during operation. They are used for washing internal sewer pipes and heating pipes with a diameter of 25–250 mm. Pump pressure is about 200 atmospheres, hose length is no more than 60 m.
Advantages and disadvantages of hydrodynamic cleaning
Compared to other methods, hydrodynamic has many advantages:
- in one session of work, plugs, even old or icy ones, sediment and growths on the pipe walls are removed;
- it is possible to both remove local traffic jams and completely clean the sewage system;
- After cleaning, the inner surface of the pipeline becomes as smooth as new, which slows down the process of formation of new growths;
- even at high pressure, water does not damage the walls of the drainage system, unlike chemicals and brushes;
- the method is suitable for sewage disposal systems of any complexity, material design and capacity;
- the work is completed quickly - it takes no more than 12 hours to maintain the cottage’s drainage system, and an hour to clean the apartment’s sewage system;
- The hydrodynamic method is suitable for cleaning heating networks, drainage and water supply, drainage, storm sewers and drains, water intake wells and sewage collectors.

The only disadvantage of the method is the high price of the equipment, which is why it is irrational to purchase a hydrodynamic machine for your own needs, and expensive to hire specialists.
Main characteristics
In the operation of installations for cleaning drainage channels, the following characteristics are important:
- pressure - productivity and quality of work depend on its value;
- water flow - determines the size of the pipe being cleaned;
- hose length – gives the maximum cleaning distance in one go;

- engine power - the greater it is, the more powerful the pump can be used and, accordingly, the larger pipe diameter can be cleaned.
